Surrounded by the most beautiful mountain scenery, offers everything the heart desires. Whether enjoyment & recreation, sports & adventure, crafts & tradition – the Wolfgangsee region has something for everyone …
Autumn is the perfect time for hiking. There are several options to climb the mountains, on foot or – the cozier option – by train or cable car. No matter which summit you visit, you will enjoy magnificent views on all of them. In St. Gilgen you can take a nostalgic 12er Horn cable car to 1522 m, in Strobl you can explore the Postalm, on which a variety of excursion options await you. In St. Wolfgang you can take the well-known cog railway to climb the Schafberg.
For hikers, climbers and cyclists a wide variety of other mountains around the lake offer many routes with different levels of difficulty.
For winter sport enthusiasts, the Postalmarena near Strobl offers great outdoor options. You will find many kilometers of cross-country ski trails, ski slopes and several ski tour routes – for children there is a fun park with magic carpet, tubes, slide plates and much more.
The Zwölferhornbahn in St Gilgen will take you safely to the “Horn” even in winter, where you can expect a great descent. In the valley beginners and smaller guests are offered a drag lift. The Zwölferhorn is also a very popular ski touring destination, where you can enjoy a summiteers drink in the evening after the not all too long ascent to the top.
The fact that there are a lot of culinary delights around the lake has not been a secret for the past years. Whether regional delicacies, a hearty Brettljause or specialties from all over the world – at the Wolfgangsee everyone gets their money’s worth. Even for vegetarians and vegans, the selection is getting bigger and bigger
